Soldiers and Sailors Monument

Downtown Indianapolis

Recognized as one of the world's outstanding monuments, the structure has come to symbolize both the City of Indianapolis and the state of Indiana.

The Soldiers & Sailors Monument is Indiana's official memorial to Hoosiers that served in the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Mexican War, Civil War, Frontier Wars, and the Spanish-American War. The Monument stands 284 feet, 6 inches tall - only 15 feet shorter than the Statue of Liberty - and is crowned with a statue of Victory, holding a sword in her right hand and a torch in her left.

The War Memorial Plaza National Historic District was built to honor Hoosier veterans of World War I. Boasting three stories, the Museum houses special features and exhibits from the Revolutionary War to the War on Terror in Afghanistan and Iraq, and other peacekeeping missions around the world.
